About Joe Callero

Sterling Athletics and Coach Callero have been on the same team since the company was founded in 1994. Before Coach Callero became an endorser of the Sterling brand, he was a loyal customer ordering camp basketballs and apparel as head coach at Sumner High School. Coach Callero has been with Sterling ever since and refuses to use any camp basketballs or apparel other than the Sterling brand.

Due to his success at the high school, NCAA Division I, II and III levels, Coach Callero was named the head coach of Cal Poly University’s men’s basketball team on April 3, 2009. Coach Callero is one of the rising stars in the collegiate basketball coaching profession and has developed a penchant for revitalizing college basketball programs. Before Cal Poly, he was head coach at Seattle University (2001-09). Callero guided the Redhawks to 75 victories during his final four seasons and successfully directed the program through its transition to the Division I level. Callero’s final 2008-09 season with the Redhawks produced a 21-8 campaign and the program’s highest winning percentage in 45 seasons.

  • He orchestrated one of the top single-season turnarounds in the 17-year Division I history of the Cal Poly men’s basketball program. Callero’s initial 2009-10 season yielded a 12-19 overall record and Cal Poly’s 5-2 start in conference play was the program’s best beginning as a member of the Big West.

  • Under Callero, Seattle finished the 2006-07 campaign with a 20-9 record, a Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship and the program’s first berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 38 years.

  • Assisted guard Lorenzo Keeler to become the first Cal Poly player in three seasons to earn All-Big West first team praise.
